Items currently missing when creating a custom filter from "My Filters"
* Show Tasks and Tests
* Show Closed Items
* Find
There may be others, but would be great if these could be saved into a filter. Would also be great if I could create a saved filter right from the ad-hoc filtering UI :)

Also missing are: Team, Sprint, Any specific portfolio or work items, and more. Would like to see all fields filterable. For those that work mainly in grid views, setting up custom filters is very important.
Agreed. Our team would very much like to have filtering on all fields that we're normally able to filter when showing a grid view.
Especially filters such as team, sprint, tag and owner.
As of the Winter 2018 release, you can save your grid views using “My Views”. The “My Views” button makes it easy to save and recall customized filters on the grid, including which columns are visible, editable fields, page sorting, and number of items per page. You also have the option to save your current project scope selection into your view. "My Filters" will remain in the product as-is, but we expect that most users will switch to using "My Views".
