You should be able to filter on any field in the system, but at the very least you should be able to filter on any field that is viewable in the grid.

Our product teams want to filter on fields such as product owner that are not filter-able. Custom fields should be filter-able as well.

Comments

  • I'd like filters for:
    Custom fields
    Ranges of date values
    Show me ONLY Closed items
    Project

  • In fact, filtering is a must when backlog exceeds 20-30 items. Our typical project includes around 300 open BLI at the high time of a Release. The total Product backlog items count can be much longer. Filter by Feature Group helps, but is not enough to view backlog from different angles during Release and Sprint planning as well as reporting. Filter on any field, including custom, would help a lot to save time sifting through the lists.

  • as a Scrum Master I'd like to filter noise to help team stay focused. This is true for a development environment as well as for backlog. From this point - filter on any field is a great help during planning.

  • Filter on custom fields please.

  • My technical support staff create defects in the system and they need to have a list of the defects they created. There is not any way to get a list of the defects I created. Even a product like Bug Tracker has super-search that lets you search and sort on any of the fields in the system.

  • In addition to being able to filter by all fields, it would be very useful to be able to define more freely the filtered values. For example
    - It's not enough to be able to filter all the BLI's of one Feature Group. Instead it should be possible to select several Feature Groups to one filter.
    - For numeric fields it should be possible to enter value ranges when filtering. For example '>=5 AND <10'.

  • My Home/My Work. Need ability to add filter Team. This is needed for multi-team development on projects. Team members want a view to show the next task to start on a prioritized backlog item list (i.e., ordered or ranked using a custom column).

  • Filter on "Requested by" really needed

  • Filter on owners for the feature groups would be useful

  • Filtering by any field would be nice, filtering by Owner is a high priority for us.

  • Filtering by any field would be great, but by project is important.

  • Filtering on any fields (displayed fields in the grid, others, custom fields, etc). This would help a great deal for our users.

  • I think it would be great to have this added. Being able to do more sophisticated searching including what is outlined by Toni would help my users immensely. Ranges, and/or searches, showing only closed items - all great and incredibly useful!

  • When assigning any relations for example assigning dependencies to an Epic the list of backlog item is too big, there is no way to narraow it down even if you know the backlog item id that you would like to select. This is true for all the filters.

  • +1 on filtering 'Product Owner'. Admins should be able to configure which fields can be included in filters. Also, we'd like to be able to build filters with 'NOT' and 'AND'.

  • I want to be able to filter Issues by Type or other fields. We have added an issue type called "Technical Debt" for issues, which can later be converted to backlogs when we are ready to pull them into a sprint.

When we are trying to block a backlog or defect with an existing issue, the list of issues that is pulled up can be quite large. I want to be able to filter that list - by type, by team, etc.

  • Specifically, we would also like the ability to Filter on Team in Member Tracking. We could have 4 teams working on a Project, but only want to look at the remaining hours against capacity for our team at the standup.

  • I would need to be able to filter based on "Created By" fields

  • I need to filter on "Created By"

  • Filtering by "Create Date" and "Change Date" would be useful. In fact, filtering by date in most views would be nice.

  • It would be great to be able to invert a filter. Everthing but criteria x/y/z...

  • Yes, this would be a great feature to filter on any field !!!

  • In my backlog, under Product Planning, I desperately want to filter for all backlog items with no assigned project. Because really, when I'm product planning, I'm looking for all the work we haven't already planned to do in some other project.

  • When I am testing many stories all with multiple tests at different stages, it would make it much easier to see the current status if I could filter the Testboard view to show only tests at Passed or Failed or InTest or None instead of only being able to filter by work item.

  • I am looking at the taskboard and the testboard and am surprised I can see no way to filter my defects by state. Quite a clear and obvious task when looking at a new build is seeing what is ready for test so I can just look through the relevant defects - picking through a large list one by one is a poor experience. This suggestion has a huge number of votes and is 2 years old, why is this feature not being implemented?

  • You can filter on custom fields, if it is a "List" type field ... It is under the "More ..." filter area.

  • Please!

  • And allow filter options on all tabs (the tabs I mainly work with include Goals, requests, and Backlog).

  • Please include in the filter to SHOW ONLY CLOSED ITEMS (request, epic, story, issue, etc. )

  • I'd like to filter on a custom combobox and (in another use case) on the field "Verfified by".

  • At least allow the TaskBoard view to be able to filter by Workitem (Task or Test) TYPE. The only filters I see regarding Type are for the type of Story or Type of Defect. That is NOT as helpful on the TASK Board or TEST BOARD. I can see why it would be ok in the StoryBoard but come on. Please provide the ability to filter just one or many Types of Tasks on the Taskboard.

Yes, yes, i see that you have enabled the ability to color code by Task Type, that is great but if a developer only wants to see the Task type that are red (for example), it is not possible.

  • Customer is a default field that comes with the system, it indicates who is the PO advocating for this card. It is pretty annoying to our process that we can't filter by Customer, we have to sort our backlog by Customer name and page through one at a time until we find "Mike", conveniently right around the middle of our hundreds of cards.

Allow us to filter by Customer!

  • This feature request has gotten a lot of votes. Please consider this for a near-term release.

A couple common requests from our users:
-- The ability to see stories OR tasks "Created By" a specific person while in any of the screens.
-- The ability to use task filters within the Sprint Planning and Tracking screens. People create personal filters on Task attributes. They select these filters in the Sprint screens, expecting to see all tasks (and their related stories) that match the filters. Instead, these filters do nothing because filters apparently only apply to stories in these screens, leaving the user wondering if filtering is broken.

  • It´s almost a MUST have requirement for us to be able to filter on custom fields.

  • Please do this! We have custom fields we need to filter on.

  • Globalization team really need more sufficient filter, 1 Internationalization QE usually manage 2~3 products, each of the products has hundreds of stories, also IQE is under offshore working model, difficult to gather enough information via face to face communication.
So this feature is a dsired function for IQE/Globalization team across the company.

  • Need it :(

  • There does seem to be a good amount of variety in the specific filtering capabilities folks would find valuable. We have added some more filters over time, but do recognize the need to provide even more flexibility. We are looking at ways to provide a true "filter by anything" capability.

It has been pointed out above that list fields, even custom list fields, can be used to filter via the More... filter capability in the grid. This More... filter also allows you to multi-select on a filter (High and Medium Priority items, for example). It is not the end-all feature, but may provide some additional value if you were not previously aware of it.

  • +1 for this feature. Even if we could only filter on whether the field was populated, that would be helpful.

  • I have started using goals for my user stories then realized that even if I expose it as a column in my backlog, I cannot filter by it. Can we filter by Goals in the backlog? It isn't even a custom field!

  • Is it possible to exclude results, like "Find all backlog items without word "Button". It works in Jira and it's really hard to track VersionOne, because once u changed backlog item - the list refreshes instanlty, and all your expanded current tasks will be collapsed.
    Sometimes it's really annoying.

  • I'd like to filter AND bookmark the user stories in the master backlog for a particular team. I've found this among many little nits that keep me from asserting that V1 is the best tool for the job.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of VersionTwo! ;)

  • I agree with this, we need better/complete filtering capabilities. Any field, multiple values and to be able to save them. The current save filter only allows you to create filters on list types. Can't save a filter by Theme/Epic, etc.

  • I would like to be able to filter over two Custom Fields ("Change Coordinator" for Backlog and Defect) based on one Custom List Type and condensed in one Custom Column (at the moment you can only filter each field separately otherwise you will get no result => so it is an "and"-statement and not a "xor"-statement).

  • I'd like to be able to filter over multiple IDs:
in Backlog, expand Filter panel, in Find text field enter "D-111 | D-222 | D-333" and get all three items in filter results

  • I strongly agree. We need the ability to filter on 'Product Owner', 'Owner', etc. in all the grids as well as the storyboard.

  • I want to filter by Created By. I create defects and want to be able to list all defects I have created.

  • I find myself needing to filter on any field on a daily basis now, there is a large amount of value to completing this work. Can we please get an official response from the team and get a status on this idea?

  • Would like to be filtering on positive/negative items in a field as well. Example, on task board or story board, would like to filter on all items where owner does NOT = "JohnDoe"

  • It is mentioned in another post, but being able to filter based on numeric values (or ranges) would be useful. I think someone mentioned about being able to make filters available to a team, that also would be a nice to have.

  • Negative filtering would be great - as in the ability to specify NOT for a specific value (show all teams except for "A").

  • +++++ for more advanced filtering - ASAP Please! Also, the ability to re-order elements in the grid view!

  • +1 on adding filters to all available fields irrespective of whether it is custom or not and multi value or not.
Cant filter a custom field of type checkbox/text

  • While in the taskboard I use a filter on backlog item status "Todo" and "Doing", as well as owner "me". This allows me to see only my current and upcoming work. Working on a larger backlog item with a colleague it would be nice to see only the tasks that I own though.
In the testboard however, I can only filter on backlog items with status "Ready for test". I would really like to be able to filter on test-values like Owner to see only those backlog items and testcases that I'm the owner of (ie. I need to test them) and ignore the rest.

  • You can filter on most fields, but why can't you filter on a Checkbox field?
Because you cannot multi-select on a list type and we can't rely upon people to enter values correctly in text boxes using checkboxes to track multiple deployments\etc seems like a good idea...except you can't filter or search on them! Too many limitations in V1.

  • For me there are a lot of filters missing:
    - items (esp. requests, defects) that have been created by a certain person or in a certain time-frame (when I was in holidays)
    - backlog items that have a upstream or downstream dependency
    - product owner
    - backlog items with a certain estimate and priority (to close gaps when planning a sprint)
    - ...
Could it be possible to have a filter row in my grid? Depending on the type of field I could be able to enter free text, select from a dropdown, potentially use operators, ...

  • Is there a reason why behaviors of the Global Search couldn't be introduced into the Storyboard|Taskboard|List views (team room or otherwise) but restricted to the project being viewed at the time?

  • Agree, and would find much utility being able to filter on any field in any view. I thought 'more filters' would have allowed me to select any fields). Examples of areas I have wanted to filter and didn't have the ability:
    Portfolio Kanban > Filter by:
    - Team (available in Portfolio Tree, why not Kanban?)
    - Planned Begin (a partial workaround for items grouped by date ranges like quarter is using a standard naming convention like 16.4 for 4th quarter 2016 and use the Find / keyword filter).
    - Items with blockers (visual indicator is nice workaround, but filterable would be nice, or even if the visual indicator was some unique text /!\, I could Cntrl+F to find items in the page.
    Thank you!

  • How come there is no action on this request? Is anyone from VersionOne listening?

  • Thank you all for your valuable feedback. I agree with you that this idea has a high value and that it is long overdue. I am happy to report that we are currently in the discovery phase for this feature and expect to deliver it this year.

Synthesizing the feedback you provided and analyzing the users' needs, we decided to replace our current filtering with a new, more powerful way to filter. This new filtering feature will allow you to select multiple values (i.e. priority=medium, high), use *any* field/attribute in the system and finally select different operations where appropriate (i.e. not equals, less/greater than, between, contains, in addition to equals). The first release will not contain ability to save these filters, but it is something we might iterate on in the future.

  • Looking forward to it!

  • We are currently in final discovery phases for this feature and we would love to get your input on some of the pieces.
If anyone is interested in spending 10-15 minutes with us reviewing the final pieces please email me at ira.dennis@versionone.com to setup a user testing session.

We are eager to hear from you. Thanks!

  • (This may already be in your plans, but just in case it is not) - I hope your plans will include filtering on a multi-select field type (multi-value picklist). This is currently a big gap in the V1 analytics feature.

Hopefully plans for filtering will include the use of values from all picklists. It would not make sense to limit filtering to single value picklists, when customers also will derive value from the use of multi-value picklists. I really don’t understand why multi-value lookups have not been supported yet. It’s disappointing and annoying - and hopefully gets fixed when this enhancement is introduced.

Ira, I'd be willing to spend time reviewing your final pieces of the feature and will send you an Email.

  • I fix defects and want to be able to list all defects I have been assigned. Why don't have field "resolve by" to fill my name and filter them. I want to tell defects I support resolved for another and defects appear by me.

  • It would be extremely helpful to be able to filter by the Project field when using the Portfolio Kanban view / Planning Room. We use many Project field values and would like to have the ability to filter down to a specific Project field value.

  • The new release provided better filtering but it still doesn't include "Created By".I would need to be able to filter based on "Created By" fields

  • With the new filtering capability, I still couldn't find a way to filter by product owner.

  • One of the biggest filter issues we have besides simply not being able to filter in some places or by some fields that we want (already discussed by other people in this ‘idea’) is the way filters work in the Epic Tree.
We rely on this view a lot for managing our Epic Backlog but unfortunately the filter results start off as laughably bad and sometimes becomes just unuable.
We might filter where Type = Feature and see several epics that are not defined as Type = Feature.
We might filter by an owner and get epics that belong to a different owner in the results.
We might filter by a subproject a get epics that belong to a different subproject showing in the results.
We sometimes even get individual stories to show up without their parent epic somehow.
And if we even dare to filter by more than one field at a time… who knows what weird results we’ll see.
A lot of the problem we think has to do with the filter still trying to apply the hierarchy to the search results instead of treating child epics as a unique objects. Sometimes we can reason why we get weird results and sometimes we just give up and export to excel to use the filter there.

  • LOVE the new filtering - very powerful - thanks! We also could use the filtering by "Created by". Do you plan to include this? Thanks again...

  • Thank you all for your valuable input. I am happy to announce that the new filters have arrived.

You can now pick any applicable field to filter by (including the recently requested Product Owner and Created By - available in the latest release). You can also select more than one value where applicable (for example Owner=Susan, Bob or Mary). And, for date and number fields, you can use <, >, in addition to =. To enable fast and easy use, keyboard shortcuts are available (i.e. CTRL+F to start adding a new filter, ENTER to apply).

Please check it out and keep the good ideas coming.
